Dr Jason Fung on diabesity and diabetes controlThere are simple and do-able ways to manage your diabetes (or prediabetes) and weight problems. There's also benefits in terms of mental clarity and even some reversal of age related dementia. Here's my story and here's an expert's video to help you follow up on this great solution for yourself.
Two years ago my blood sugar crept up to the point that nearly required medication. I wasn't fat but I was 3 kgs heavier than my 20's weight and I was trending into brain fog and anxiety (type three diabetes, diabetes of the brain). Thanks to Dr Jason Fung's online videos (youtube channel here) I now fast 14 hours each day, with exercise during the fast. For the remaining 10 hours I eat what I like. I do replace some of the carbs with healthy fats. My favourite is coconut oil because brain cells use it as an energy source. Hunger pangs? - Yes. But they are easily managed by drinking a cup of tea with a teaspoon of coconut oil. It took a year but my blood sugars are now back to normal. Nice is, I'm not a burden on the health system. And I'm a little easier to live with!
Three main keys to healthy management of diabetes are: (1) intermittent fasting (2) reduction of all carbohydrates with increase of healthy fats (3) regular exercise at the right time of the day.
