UK variant! - How to reduce your COVID risks.
“The UK variant is infecting everyone worldwide and there's nothing we can do before the vaccine rollout!...”.That's the impression I get from the news right now and while UK variant certainly exists and infects quickly, there's plenty we can do about it and we should not let panic mongering announcements tell us otherwise.

Blindsided by a billion-dollar marketing campaign
Right now the world's flow of health information is controlled by pharmaceutical and vaccine companies who are surfing a huge and risky financial wave. I'm not knocking those companies and I acknowledge the high-tech miracles they have wrought in bringing workable vaccinations to production. But will governments and citizens want the vaccine if the epidemic is over? Or will vaccine company investors be staring down the barrel of a $10 billion dollar loss?
Background information: Covid vaccines: Will drug companies make bumper profits?
The answer is likely yes, there could be a big loss. On the other hand to make a profit you need to sell the vaccine to everybody - not just those who are at risk. It's quite a gamble to invest in vaccine development.
As the northern spring kicks in and COVID deaths rise above approximately 1400 per million of population, the worst of the epidemic may be over, and this before the rollout of the vaccines. There will be a long tail of deaths after 1400 per million, but the worst of the crisis will be over, and the drive to vaccinate the whole population (even those that are at low risk and don't need vaccine protection) will peter out - unless the vaccine companies can do something to change that.
Research exercise: The COVID epidemic has nearly peaked
Go to world www.worldometers.info and wait for the large table to load. Click on the table header “deaths per million population” so that the highest death rates are loaded at the top of the table. You can see at the time of writing (1/18/21) that Belgium has a total death rate of 1756 per million.
Now click on Belgium in the left-hand column and check out the daily infection and death charts.
You will see that for Belgium the peak of the epidemic is well and truly over, and has been since mid-November. This is my evidence that for the northern hemisphere at least, the epidemic is close to finished and will essentially be over by the end of the northern hemisphere spring.
Will there be a third wave?
Could be, but it won’t be anywhere near as severe as the second wave, and (in the absence of fear-mongering news articles!) it is not likely to cause panics lock-downs and a rush for vaccinations.
Strong financial incentives
So vaccine companies have a strong financial incentive to (1) keep reported death and infection statistics high, and (2) keep the perception of danger high. There is nothing wrong about having financial incentives. It's what you do about them that counts. So what do the vaccine companies actually do?
Keeping the perception of danger high
This is something you can decide for yourself when you listen to the daily news. There's no doubt that our perception of danger is ramped up by most of the daily news articles. Ask yourself, will this news story increase my feeling of fear? Does this story quote (directly or indirectly) a vaccine company expert? Will the presentation of this story lead to the sale of more doses of vaccine? Did the writer of the story offer a balanced (and opposing) opinion on alternatives to vaccination, that will ward of a serious COVID infection?
If the answer is yes to the first questions and no to the last, then that news story is promoting vaccination at expense of alternatives, has direct or indirect input from a vaccine company, and is a biased story. It takes one phone call from a scientist to a journalist, and the journalist will eagerly write up a dramatic news article that will help sell advertising space in his newspaper. (This scenario is offered as a personal opinion and without prejudice. I'm not a conspiracist, and this is not an anti-vax article - I care deeply about your health and wellbeing).
Keeping reported death and infection statistics highBack to the first financial incentive: Could vaccine companies keep reported death and infection stats high, and would they do it?
Two questions, could and would. Answer to the first answer is yes they could, vaccine companies could ensure that reported death and infection rates remain high, by encouraging government and news institutions to do lots of testing (and that is certainly happening) and to diagnose every COVID related death as "COVID" even when the main cause of death is a serious underlying health condition that may have killed within months anyway (see research exercise below).
Second question is, maybe vaccine companies would go so far as to encourage artificially inflated figures, remembering that there is $10 billion at stake? But I am not here to judge. You can answer the question for yourself.

Ask yourself, is it offering new drugs? Is it offering dangerous treatments? Is it making claims without the backup of research articles and experienced medical experts?
In this warning letter to DrJockers.com, the FDA lists some vitamins and calls them unapproved new drugs. But vitamins are not drugs. Nor are they "new".
The FDA claims that these vitamins are being misleadingly represented as safe and/or effective. Is it misleading when the writer quotes evidence from reputable scientific journals? And can the FDA claim DrJockers is fraudulent when they themselves don't quote any evidence at all? This is a lack of accountability.
Drjockers.com is an accountable website
This website has been cleaned up in compliance with The FDA newsletter and you can check this by searching the site. It's now a "clean" site. But the FDA website still publishes it's accusations against Drjockers.com, in the present tense, even though the material that they regard as offensive has been removed and the accusations no longer have anything to target. I hope that the FDA will remove their accusations soon.
How to reduce your COVID risks
Understand that, strictly defined, there is no COVID epidemic. Strictly defined, there is a COVID-plus-pre-existing-conditions epidemic.
If you don't have obesity, diabetes, low vitamin D, heart disease, lung conditions, bowel conditions, or autoimmune disease, you are at a much reduced risk of severe COVID infection. Even dementia can be prevented if you start preventative health strategies 20 years before it happens. If you do have any of these conditions you can do a whole lot of things to heal yourself and thereby boost your COVID resilience.
(Note: symptom suppressive prescription medicines do not improve your health. Such medicines make you comfortable - nothing wrong with being comfortable - but they do nothing to make you healthy, and therefore COVID resilient).
